Doug came to Christ in his teens, during the charismatic movement and the “Jesus is coming back in 1988” days of the church. While now rejecting a good amount of the theology he’s learned over the last 40+ years, he’s still maintained faith in Christ.

Doug later reconciled being a gay man and a Christian, and has served as pastor of a small affirming church for over 10 years.

Doug lives in Youngstown, Ohio with his husband Shane, two cats, and an energetic goldendoodle named Georgia.

    Carson serves as a writer and the Editor-in-Chief for both The Sacred Humanists and Subversive Discourse. He attended Baylor University's Truett Seminary and is a priest in the The Anglican Free Communion International, which is LGBT+ welcoming and affirming. Carson attends an Episcopal church. Outside of being a full-time dad, he serves as the chaplain of an ecumenical spiritual retreat center north of Houston. Because faith has seldom come easily, he has a tattoo that in Koine Greek reads, "Lord, I believe; help my unbelief." Carson has an equal love for nerd and sports culture, deeply values hospitality and meaningful discussion, and is committed to pursuing truth, beauty, and goodness wherever it is to be found.
