Karl Utz

Karl was born in America but has been living in Malaysia since 2015. A musician by training, he holds degrees in church music from Oral Roberts University and Baylor University. In Malaysia, he serves as an English teacher and volunteers with the music team at his local Anglican church. He loves wrestling with thought-provoking topics, especially those that intersect with theology, music, and culture.

    Carson serves as a writer and the Editor-in-Chief for both The Sacred Humanists and Subversive Discourse. He attended Baylor University's Truett Seminary and is a priest in the The Anglican Free Communion International, which is LGBT+ welcoming and affirming. Carson attends an Episcopal church. Outside of being a full-time dad, he serves as the chaplain of an ecumenical spiritual retreat center north of Houston. Because faith has seldom come easily, he has a tattoo that in Koine Greek reads, "Lord, I believe; help my unbelief." Carson has an equal love for nerd and sports culture, deeply values hospitality and meaningful discussion, and is committed to pursuing truth, beauty, and goodness wherever it is to be found.
